The City of Kentwood is dedicated to minimizing its environmental impact while enhancing
the lives of its residents. With this in mind, Kentwood has begun working on a series of
energy-saving initiatives aimed at reducing wasted energy in its buildings.
Partnering with local MEP engineering and energy company, E3M Solutions, Kentwood
initiated a comprehensive audit to assess energy usage across a number of facilities.
E3M Solutions worked closely with City staff to understand their concerns and objectives,
tailoring recommendations to meet Kentwood’s unique needs.
Through this collaborative effort, the following energy-efficiency improvements were made:
– Lighting upgrades were implemented, incorporating new fixtures and LED lamps and
bulbs in multiple City buildings.
– Control systems were also added, recommissioned or upgraded to optimize heating,
ventilation and air conditioning systems in the library, City Hall, fire stations and Parks
and Recreation buildings.
The impact of these changes is substantial. Kentwood anticipates annual energy savings of
nearly $70,000 as a result of these upgrades.
“We’re thrilled at the results of the energy use audit and recommendations made by our
partner, E3M Solutions,” Deputy City Administrator Shay Gallagher said. “The changes not only
continue our commitment to sustainability but also resulted in significant dollars saved each
year.”
